Cemetery Boys
Jules (they/he) reads a lot of LGBTQ+ books in their spare time and is telling us about a few of their favorite ones for kids. This book, although written for high-schoolers, is great for adults as well!
Bathe the Cat
Jules (they/he) reads a lot of LGBTQ+ books in their spare time and is telling us about a few of their favorite ones for kids. Jules knows many preschoolers who love this month’s book. Their nephew wanted to hear it read six times the night he got it as a present!
Call Me Max
Jules (they/he) reads a lot of LGBTQ+ books in their spare time and is telling us about a few of their favorite ones for kids. There aren’t many LGBTQ+ early reader books, so huge thanks to LGBTQ Reads for suggesting this one!
LGBTQ+ History Books
It’s almost the end of #LGBTHistoryMonth but we’ve got some books to keep you going till October 2023! Our GBPFLAG Is Reading book this month is for tweens and teens, but good for adults too!
Pride: The Celebration and the Struggle
Jules (they/he) reads a lot of LGBTQ+ books in their spare time and is telling us about a few of their favorite ones for kids. October is LGBTQ+ History Month, and this month’s book is a great look at the history and evolution of Pride celebrations from pre-Stonewall movements to today. It’s a great nonfiction read - nice for kids who prefer that, or who want to mix up their genres a bit!
The Heartbreak Bakery
Jules reads a lot of LGBTQ+ books in their spare time and is telling us about a few of their favorite ones for kids. Jules is friends with the editor of The Heartbreak Bakery (and is listed in the acknowledgements!), but don’t think this is a nepotism recommendation: it recently won the Lambda Literary Award for best YA Novel!
Julián is a Mermaid
Jules reads a lot of LGBTQ+ books in their spare time and is telling us about a few of their favorite ones for kids. The first book they’re telling us about is Julián is a Mermaid, loved by multiple 3-year-olds of their acquaintance!
