Parent, Caregiver & Family Support

Family and community love and acceptance are key to building a world in which LGBTQ+ individuals are safe, supported, included, and free to succeed and thrive in all areas of their lives.

Our Parent & Caregiver Support Groups, Parent/Caregiver Connection Line, and 1 to 1 are specifically geared towards families, caregivers, and other loved ones.

Whether your child just came out, you have questions about your child’s gender identity, want to learn what more you can do to advocate for your child, or you just want someone to talk to, we are here to meet you wherever you are and help you in supporting your loved one.

Our support programs have helped hundreds of parents with their questions and concerns. Family support has been linked to helping with your child’s physical and mental health.

Parent, Caregiver & Family Support Groups

Our support groups are safe, welcoming spaces where you can connect with others who have LGBTQ+ loved ones — including parents, friends, partners, and allies.

Led by trained volunteers (most of them parents), these monthly groups offer support, answer questions, and share helpful resources. Meetings are free and confidential.

We have groups throughout Greater Boston and virtual. Feel free to email any group to ask about their meeting location, and attend whichever group feels right for you.

Talk to someone who understands

1 to 1 Program

Want to meet a parent or caregiver who has experience supporting a child with a similar identity? Want someone to share what worked for them as a caregiver, how they worked with their school, hospital, insurance, or extended family to support their child?

We can match you with someone who’ll get on the phone, email, text, and/or meet with you in a public place and share their experiences. Reach the GBPFLAG Parent/Caregiver Connection Line at 866-312-5007 or email helpline@gbpflag.org. No matter how you choose to reach us, you’ll receive a response within 24 hours, and we’ll match you with someone who is a good fit for you. The number that calls you back will show up as “Private Number.”

Advocacy: Creating Lasting Change

For nearly 50 years, PFLAG has been at the forefront of LGBTQ+ equality—beginning with one mother’s courageous act in New York, carrying a homemade sign to demand justice for her gay child.

At Greater Boston PFLAG, we’re proud to carry that legacy forward. Our advocacy work focuses on changing hearts, minds, and laws to create a world where LGBTQ+ people and their families are safe, supported, and celebrated.

We champion policies and practices that reflect the values of our members and empower communities to take action. Our advocacy spans every level—from local neighborhoods to the State House, and in partnership with PFLAG National on federal initiatives.

Our Core Advocacy Priorities:

  • LGBTQ+ Equality – Advancing inclusive policies and protections

  • Community Justice – Fighting discrimination and promoting equity

  • LGBTQ+ Kids & Families – Ensuring safety and support in schools and communities

  • LGBTQ+ Health – Expanding access to affirming, comprehensive care

Join us in making change possible—because equality can’t wait. Email info@gbpflag.org to share information about current advocacy efforts, legislation, and other local events that matter to you, or if you are interested in partnering in our work.
