NAMED PRESIDENT OF GREATER BOSTON PFLAG
-- Bourdon to focus on the strategic growth of leading organization in the LGBTQ community--
Boston, MA (February 26, 2014) -- The Board of Directors of Greater Boston PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender people) has announced the appointment of Thomas Bourdon to the newly created position of President. Greater Boston PFLAG is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering LGBTQ-inclusive families, schools and communities.
“As a growing organization, we have been working strategically to steadily build our organizational capacity,” said Deborah Peeples, Board of Directors Chair of Greater Boston PFLAG. “As we approach the next phase of our organizational life cycle, we are focusing our attention even more closely on expanding our programming reach and offerings in the community. With Tom managing the business and development efforts, we will be poised to create an even greater impact in the Greater Boston area.”
According to Peeples, Bourdon’s strong management background combined with his cultural competence as a leader and advocate make him the ideal choice for the position of President. Most recently, Bourdon was Director of the LGBT Center and Co-Chair of the Social Justice Leadership Initiative at Tufts University. Prior to his work at Tufts, Bourdon served as Program Administrator for the Office of LGBT Student Services at New York University and as the Assistant Director of the LGBT Resource Center at the University of California, Los Angeles. Bourdon received his Bachelor of Science degree from Babson College, a Master of Education from UCLA, and a Doctorate of Education from Northeastern University.
Bourdon will work closely with Greater Boston PFLAG Executive Program Director Pam Garramone, a highly committed and experienced educator and advocate in the LGBTQ community. “The fantastic response to our award-winning programs is a direct result of Pam’s deep connection to our area’s families, schools, corporations and communities. As the need for our programs and services continues to rise, Pam will have increased visibility in the communities we serve. It is a thrilling time for Greater Boston PFLAG’s staff, constituents and board.”
Bourdon joins the Greater Boston PFLAG staff prior to the organization’s premiere event, Pride and Passion. The annual event to be held on April 3, 2014 at the Seaport World Trade Center, celebrates the recent achievements and new initiatives of Greater Boston PFLAG and honors those individuals who are making a significant impact on the future of LGBTQ youth. “Everyone associated with Greater Boston PFLAG is proud and passionate about the work we do in the LGBTQ community,” stated Peeples. “Tom’s commitment, energy and enthusiasm personify what this organization stands for. On behalf of our board, I am thrilled to welcome Tom to Greater Boston PFLAG.”
